One of the most beautiful peaks in the Khumbu Valley is Ama Dablam. On the trek to the base camp of Everest, the first time Ama Dablam appears immediately after Namche Bazar and as you moving further, you can see this beautiful mountain from different angles. From the side of Namche Bazar, the mountain seems completely impregnable. Its steepness resembles the alpine Matterhorn, but at the same time it is more than two kilometers higher and, in addition, its top is covered on all sides by hanging glaciers. Many professional climbers consider climbing Ama Dablam no less a challenge than climbing Mount Everest.
The name of the mountain comes from the Nepalese words Ama (mother, grandmother) and Dablam (something like a necklace, a traditional element of women's clothing in Sherpas). And indeed, the mountain resembles the figure of a woman with this same “double”, who spread her arms as if for a hug.
A view of Ama Dablam from one of the angles is well known for the image of the mountain on the Aqua Minerale label. True, few people know that this mountain is in the picture. A stylized image of the peak of Ama Dablam is also included in the logo of the American asset management company INVESCO.
The first ascent to the summit of Am Dablam was made by New Zealander Mike Gill and American Barry Bishop in 1961.
