Itinerary GHT >> Makalu

The next part of the route awaits us with some of the most difficult passes. On the way to Makalu (8,463m) you need to overcome three passes, two of which are higher than 6000m. Perhaps this is the most difficult part of the journey. Here again, the help of local guides will be needed.

Since, according to the plan, I have to enter this part of the trek in November, there is a risk of losing time waiting for acceptable weather conditions to overcome the passes. Also, here I need the help of an additional team of guides and porters. And, of course, the coldest nights await me here.

There are much fewer tourists, but you can find a huge number of rare plants and animals. And of course, beautiful landscapes with views of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu.

Makalu District is the largest nature restricted area in Nepal. There are 3,000 species of plants, 440 species of birds and 75 species of mammals. Of the rare species, you can find musk deer, leopard and Asian golden cat.

If you are lucky with the weather and allow you to feel good, you can climb the summit of Baruntse (7100m).

Estimated travel time for this part of the route is 16 days.
